Jean Paul Getty was the wealthiest person on the planet in his time. This complex he built is an exact replica of an ancient Roman villa, and you can feel the antique grandeur everywhere here.
During his life, I think Getty was even stingier than our own [local] billionaires... Imagine, he had a payphone installed in his own home just so his guests wouldn’t make calls at his expense!
And yet… he left Los Angeles a massive treasure. This villa and its priceless collection are free for everyone today.
